Student transportation, solved differently

Districts are hiring from the wrong labor pool. The drivers are already in the building.

Teachers, aides, and support staff already pass your students' homes on the way to work. Trust-ed turns that into a compliant transportation program, operated by a company from that same community.

Credentialing rules the platform is built to handle

The students who need a ride most are the ones the route cannot reach.

Yellow buses are built for density. They work when fifty students share a corridor. They break down entirely when one student needs to get to a school forty minutes outside the zone, and federal law says you have to take them.

  • McKinney-Vento students

A child in temporary housing keeps the right to their school of origin, wherever they move next. The route does not move with them.

  • IEP transportation mandates

When an IEP specifies door-to-door service, a bus with forty seats is the wrong vehicle and the wrong cost structure.

  • Students in foster care

Placement changes mid-year. ESSA requires school stability. Someone has to drive that gap, starting tomorrow morning.

Where districts look now

The commercial driver market

  • Requires a CDL and a passenger endorsement
  • Competes with freight and transit wages
  • Months of recruiting for a single hire
  • No existing relationship with the student
  • Costs are fixed whether the seat is full or empty
Where the drivers actually are

Educators and school staff

  • Already cleared to work around these students
  • Already trusted with them during the school day
  • Already driving to the same building each morning
  • Often living inside the attendance boundary
  • Paid per trip, so cost tracks actual need

Run by a company from the same community as the student.

Trust-ed does not operate programs. We license exclusive territory to a local operator who already knows the region, already has the relationships, and already answers to the people in it. They run it. We build the technology underneath.

Education Service Agencies

Already coordinating shared services across member districts.

Bus and transportation companies

Already running routes, and turning down every trip that will not fit one.

NEMT providers

Already moving people who cannot use fixed-route service.

Government and community agencies

Already accountable to the families this program serves.

First

A local operator takes the territory

A company or agency already rooted in the region licenses Trust-ed for a defined service area. They own the relationships, the program, and the revenue inside it.

Then

Districts in that region come aboard

Schools enroll through a portal with no procurement cycle and no capital outlay, working with an operator they may already know by name.

Meanwhile

Local educators come on as drivers

The operator recruits and onboards school staff from those same districts, meeting whatever credentialing that state requires.

Why community operators matter: a parent handing their child to a driver wants to know who is behind the program. When the operator is a business from that same county, and the driver works at that same school, the answer is a name rather than a call center.

What the model produces in practice.

Operating averages drawn from live program data. These are the numbers an operator should expect to plan around.

How driving works

Compliance is built into the platform, not bolted on afterward

McKinney-Vento ESSA IDEA and IEP transport FERPA aligned State-by-state driver credentialing 1099 contractor framework

Let's talk about the students your routes cannot reach.

Own student transportation across your entire region.

Trust-ed licenses exclusive territory to operators already working in their communities. You bring the local relationships. We bring the platform, the compliance framework, and the driver infrastructure.

What an operator receives

Exclusive territory
One operator per region. No competing licensee inside your service area.
The full platform
Affiliate Portal, District Portals for every school you serve, and both mobile apps.
Compliance infrastructure
Driver credentialing rules configured for your state, plus audit-ready trip records.
Payment operations
1099 contractor payments and tax documentation handled through the platform.

Why operators choose this over building it themselves.

Every piece below took a live program and a full school year to get right. An operator inherits all of it on day one.

One

No fleet, no capital, no depreciation

Drivers use their own vehicles under a 1099 contractor model. There is nothing to purchase, garage, insure as a fleet, or write down over seven years.

Two

A driver pool nobody else is recruiting from

Commercial operators fight over the same shrinking CDL market. Trust-ed operators recruit school staff who are already cleared, already local, and already invested in these students.

Three

Costs that move with actual demand

Per-trip economics mean an empty seat costs nothing. Districts stop paying for capacity they are not using, and operators stop carrying fixed overhead against variable need.

Four

Credentialing configured for your state

Driver requirements differ from one state to the next. The platform holds those rules per territory and will not match a driver who does not meet the standard where you operate.

Five

Compliance documentation that generates itself

Every completed trip produces the record a McKinney-Vento liaison, a SPED director, or a state auditor will eventually ask for. No one is reconstructing logs in June.

Six

A model with live results behind it

The program has run thousands of miles of individual student trips with zero safety incidents. Operators are not testing a theory, they are opening a proven program in a new region.

Who this is built for.

If you already move people, already serve schools, or already answer to this community, you are most of the way there.

Bus and transportation companies

You already run routes and already turn down the trips that will not fit one. This is how you say yes without adding a vehicle.

NEMT providers

You already move riders who cannot use fixed-route service. Student transportation is the same competency with a different rider.

Education Service Agencies

You already coordinate shared services. Transportation for hard-to-serve students is the gap most member districts cannot close alone.

Government and community agencies

County agencies, regional authorities, and community organizations with the standing to run a program families will trust.

From first conversation to first trip.

Territory review

We look at your service area, the districts you can reach, and current transportation gaps, then confirm the territory is open.

Operator agreement

Exclusive licensing terms, revenue structure, and service area boundaries are set in writing.

Platform setup and training

Your Affiliate Portal goes live, district portals are provisioned, state credentialing rules are configured, and your team is trained on the Trip Builder.

Driver recruitment and onboarding

You recruit school staff across your districts. We help you run the first wave and verify every applicant against your state's requirements.

First trips run

Students start riding. Every trip logs automatically, drivers get paid on schedule, and compliance records build themselves.

Territories are exclusive. Find out if yours is open.

What changes for your district.

One

You stop paying for a bus to carry one child

A forty-seat vehicle running a single out-of-zone student is the most expensive transportation decision a district makes. Per-trip pricing replaces it with a cost that matches the actual need.

Two

Your compliance file builds itself

Pickup times, drop-offs, mileage, and driver credentials are captured on every trip. When the state asks for documentation, it already exists in the format they want.

Three

Parents stop calling the front office

Families track the ride in real time from the Trust-ed Parent app and get notified at pickup and drop-off. Your staff stops fielding "where is my child" calls.

Four

A community operator runs the program

You are not standing up a department or managing drivers. A local operator, an ESA, a transportation company, or a community agency, runs the program and you enroll students through a portal.

Five

The driver already works in a school

Every Trust-ed driver is a vetted educator or school staff member, credentialed to your state's standard. For a student with anxiety, a disability, or an unstable home situation, that familiarity is the entire point.

How a trip actually runs.

Your team enrolls the student

Address, schedule, and any special requirements go into the District Portal. Compliance category is flagged at intake so the documentation is correct from the start.

The Trip Builder finds the driver

The platform matches the nearest available educator driver whose credentials, vehicle, and availability all clear for your state, and proposes the assignment in seconds.

Driver accepts, family is notified

The driver confirms in the Trust-ed Driver app. The family sees the assigned driver and can follow the trip live in the Parent app.

Trip completes and logs itself

Mileage, timestamps, and confirmation are recorded automatically. Driver payment is calculated and your compliance record is written the moment the trip ends.

Bring Trust-ed to your district.

You already know these students. Now you can get them to school.

Trust-ed drivers are teachers, aides, bus drivers, counselors, and school staff who take on individual student trips around the schedule they already keep, and get paid for every one.

How driving works

You choose the trips
Accept what fits your morning or afternoon. Decline what does not.
You drive your own vehicle
No district van and no special equipment. Vehicle requirements follow your state's rules.
Everything runs in the app
Trip details, navigation, drop-off confirmation, and earnings in one place.
You are paid as a contractor
Per-trip earnings tracked automatically, with 1099 documentation handled.
You sign on through your local operator, not through Trust-ed. Trust-ed builds the technology. The program in your community is run by a local operator, an Education Service Agency, a transportation company, or a community organization, and that operator is who onboards, credentials, and pays drivers. This page explains the program. When you reach out, we connect you to the operator serving your area.

What drivers earn.

Operating averages from live program activity. What you earn depends on trip distance, how often you drive, and the rates your local operator sets.

$58.63
Average earnings per completed trip
$10,739
Average annual earnings per active driver
42 mi
Average round-trip distance per trip

These are historical program averages, not a guarantee of future earnings. Rates and requirements are set by the operator running the program in your area.

Why schools trust educator drivers.

A student in crisis does not need a stranger in an unfamiliar vehicle. They need the aide who knows their triggers, the teacher who knows their name, or the counselor who has been working with them since September.

That is not a soft benefit. It is why the program has run with zero safety incidents, and why districts are willing to build transportation around school staff in the first place.

What it generally takes to drive

Requirements are set state by state and confirmed by your local operator. In most places it looks like this.

A valid driver's license in good standing
A registered, insured, inspected vehicle
Background clearance to your state's standard
A connection to a school or district
A smartphone for the Driver app
Operator onboarding for your area

Credentialing rules differ significantly from one state to the next. Your operator confirms exactly what your state requires before you drive.

A taco counter & a pizza party I'll never forget.

Trust-ed exists because of three students, one school year, and a moment at the end of it that made the whole problem obvious.

Brandon Johnson, Founder and President of Trust-ed
Founder's story

Brandon Johnson
Founder and President

Before there was a platform, there was a route with three kids on it.

I was driving for Total Transit, and that year I had Mona, who was nonverbal and autistic, Noah, who had behavioral challenges that made most transitions hard, and McKenzie, who quietly appointed herself the person who made sure everybody else was okay.

We built our own system. I kept a taco counter, a small running tally that turned every completed trip into something worth showing up for. It worked because it was ours, and because the three of them knew me and I knew them.

On the last day of school, Noah, who almost never initiated contact, reached over and took my hand during the blessing.

I have thought about that moment more than almost anything else in my professional life. Those students did not need a bigger bus or a better route. They needed someone who already knew them to show up consistently.

Trust-ed is the attempt to make that repeatable for every student in the country who is currently getting neither.

What we are actually trying to do.

The name is the thesis. Trust-ed. Trusting educators with the students they already teach, through operators who already belong to the community.

Our mission
Get every student to school safely, including the ones no existing route was designed to serve.
Our vision
A national network of community operators running educator-powered transportation in every region.
Our standard
Safety is not a metric we optimize. It is the condition we operate under. Zero incidents, every year.

The team.
